Erin was in interrogation with one of the detectives who was giving a plea deal to a smaller fish in order to catch a bigger fish. The defense lawyer none of than her ex husband. Erin remained professional as she leaned on the back wall more or less just overseeing things to make sure they were staying within the confines of what she had approved. As the State's Attorney she could really give any deal she wanted to the guy; but he really didn't deserve that much of one. She was only allowing it, so that detectives could open the door to a major weapons and arms dealer. Honestly, she didn't even want to give this.
"You call that a deal" the man hissed as he got up and charged towards Erin. Jack pulled his client off of his ex wife. Erin backed away and went outside of interrogation taking a few breathes. It wasn't her ex's fault but at the same time the asshole was defending the guy who had just tried to hurt her. "Add attempted assault" she stated as she took a few breathes. Honestly, she didn't look up to see who was standing there. She just saw the badge out of the corner of her eye. Then she heard the door open to interrogation. There stood her ex.
"Erin you alright?" he offered. Erin backed away taking a breathe.
"I'm adding attempted assault charges to your client's list of charge" she pointed.
"Erin... You can't expect him to cooperate if you keep chalking up charges on him.
"He's racking them up himself Jack! You pulled him off of me! she stated.
"Erin, why don't you go sit down." He pointed towards the bench. Erin shook her head and walked away. Right now she needed to collect her head and the defense attorney was following her around the place like a lost puppy.

Hank had been doing his own thing, grunting and nodding at people so far until he heard that a certain ex husband of his wife was in the building. That on its own was something he could tolerate to a level, he’d be professional and understanding because they both had a job to do. After all knocking Jack out from the beginning was a great idea until he figured it might land him in the dog house with Erin and Nicky. Still he went about his business until he heard that Erin was in the building too.
He knew he had no real reason to get involved with that case or really any reason to be within a mile of it but given his wife and her ex where on it. He wasn’t exactly going to sit on the side lines as he wondered in behind the glass to watch what was going on. The snark from suspects was the usual but when they chose to attack the lawyers, and a lawyer that happened to be his wife that was a line that meant people could quite easily die for it. It was also the first time that Jack in his mind had done anything useful in pulling a suspect away from Erin.
Hank came out from the room adjacent to the interrogation room as he stood back for a moment as he listened to the exchange between Jack and Erin. When she shook her head and walked away Hank followed her only pausing for a moment to glare at Jack. “Dont tell her what to do.” He warned as he went after her at a faster pace than normal. “Lou, wait up.” He called out to her wanting to know that she was alright, it was better him fussing over her than walking into interrogation and giving the suspect a trip in the boot of his car. "Are you alright?" He asked.

Of course Hank knew she was in the building, he knew everything like that even if she didn’t tell him. Which in this case, she had told him but she had NO idea that Jack was also in the building. Much less in the same interrogation room. Well that was until she had gotten there. She should have known the badge by it’s familiar number that it would be Hank standing there but she’d been preoccupied fighting with Jack.
She heard his voice snapping at Jack. Of course it would be almost a few moments before he would catch up with her. She stopped to wait when he said wait up. She needed the walk though. “Yeah. I’ll be alright. I just need a bit of a walk” a run would be nice she thought. She turned over her shoulder towards Hank and forced a smile on her face. Right now she wanted to argue that she had this under control but this would only go so well.
Erin knew she could reassign the case, but she had started it and she was damn well going to finish it. Turning herself around to face Hank she leaned on the wall. He was doing that over worrying again. There were no marks from where the guy tried to go after her. Jack was a lot of things but one thing he never did was let anyone hurt Erin. They could get along civil but she knew Hank didn’t care for him so she didn’t say anything about her husband snapping at the guy earlier. “Got time for a break?” she responded.

When Hank caught up to her he nodded, “Sure where do you want to walk?” He asked deciding that he would go with her. There was nothing pressing that he had to be in the building and making sure Erin was safe and alright was his first priority as he saw the smile on her face. He knew that she was able to look after herself, she had done just that before he got there but his issue was more the fact her ex husband was there, she had been attacked by a suspect that guy was defending.
Everyone was entitled to a fair trial but some people just needed to skip that phase and go straight to jail. Hank was used to worrying, if it wasn’t Lou then it was Sharon or Erin or Nicky or his team. They all meant a lot to him and worrying was part of what he did. It might not fix much or really help but it made him feel like he was doing something more than sitting around if anything happened. Worrying was being proactive for them and in such he hoped it protected his family as much as possible.
“For you, i’ve got a lot of time.” He said with a smile, even if he didnt which he did he would make as much time as he could for Erin. “Are you sure you’re alright?” He asked a second time just to make sure that he wasn’t missing anything because if he had to make a visit to the hospital with his wife. Someone would pay the price for that because when his family was hurt people ended up twice as bad if not more so.

Erin looked towards her husband and sighed. “I was thinking about taking a lunch break” a break before taking another crack at the guy in the madhouse. Right. Yeah she was going to have to figure out how to do her job with Mr. Protective looking over her shoulder now. Once they were outside she leaned against the wall and took a deep breathe. It was cold outside but she’d never really minded the nippy weather.
When they were outside she looked towards him keeping her voice soft. “I’m alright darling. A little off guard but alright” she assured him as she pocketed her hands in her jacket. Erin had since given up on trying to fight him in asking the same question 30 thousand times. It was less argument to just answer every time it was asked. She knew full well it was twenty questions time but she wasn’t really in the mood for it. Looking around the area before she did so she stole a quick kiss from him. More so to let him knows he was alright.
Stepping back against the wall she did even try to hide the fact she was a little off balance when it came to her mindset at the moment. It was better not to hide things from him, not that she ever did so on purpose. “What about that Italian place you insist on all the time? It’s kind of growing on me” she admitted. She still had to figure out if she was going to be able to use the guy who had tried to attack her to catch a bigger fish. Yeah in theory she could but with the track record, she had to do what was appropriate. It was one of those long days she just wanted to go home, cuddle with Hank and fall asleep on the couch. There were still some hours to go in the day though it was hardly just past noon.

Hank nodded at her thinking about taking a lunch break, it seemed to be a good time for it and given that he had time to spare that day. It was a lunch break or he would go into interrogation with her and break the guy into tiny pieces, it didnt exactly exclude Jack on that front either. He was generous with his time. Outside it was a lot colder as Hank was used to the colder weather. He preferred it to the hot kind as really if it got above twenty three degrees it was like Hawaii to him.
“What happened isn’t alright and you could have been hurt.” He said as he realised that going off the deep end was only going to cause problems. “Are you cold?” He asked offering her his jacket as well as he saw her pocket her hands. Hank smiled when she stole a quick kiss from him, maybe he could let it go he thought giving her a quick look over as he tried to dial back his twenty questions and protective side that seemed to take over. She was safe and away from the suspect so what more could he really ask for.
Hank could tell that there was something off but he was working on trying to be respectful of boundaries and not to pester her to death until she told him. Lou was his wife and not a suspect he was interrogating, he knew the difference most of the time. Hank grinned when she mentioned the Italian place, it was his favourite place to eat and well the only place he felt had a high enough food standard to eat too, it was that and he trusted the place. He was funny that way but then dinner with Erin he would have eaten at any place if it was a chance to be with her.
“Growing on you... you make it sound like fungus.” He teased as he gave her a look for a second before he smiled. “But since you mentioned it, I could do Italian today. My treat.” He said as he would have offered her his arm had he not been at work but it was more keeping within the lines of professional given he wasn’t sure who was watching or what could escape the confines of the precinct.

Erin Reagan Voight Erin shook her head at her husband slightly. “I never said what happened was okay, just that I am” she wanted to set him straight but not argue with him. She stepped only back a step or two, staying as close to him as she dared professionally. She rested the urge to hug him. Right now though it was all that she wanted was to a hug, and it showed on her face. Though she knew she was likely to be spoiled with them tonight at home.
The State's Attorney shook her head no when he asked if she was cold. “My gloves are in the car. The rest of me is warm” she assured him. “But thank you” she didn’t want him to feel unappreciated. He was thoughtful and it was something she loved about it. Balling her hands up in her jacket pocket she nodded towards her car. Erin had a bad habit of leaving her gloves in the car.
Right now, Erin was just trying to sort out the case in her head. It just didn’t play well with her mindset. She slowly started talking her mind. “They will both go away” she said in such a manner that suggested that she was thinking about how to get both suspects to confess. She sighed… knowing he wasn’t going to like the next part. “I have to plea out Stanton in there” her head indicated inside the building as she pushed off the wall to walk beside him.
“Fungus is actually AMAZING” she teased right back. Erin loved to have mushrooms on things. “And go VERY well with Italian, I will have you know” she was in a good mood considering everything going on. Still showing her true colors with everything going on. Whatever had happened, she wasn’t letting it get to her. Erin moved down the sidewalk as she walked beside him towards his favorite Italian place in Chicago.

He had married a lawyer, he needed to remember that one when she set him straight about her point of being okay. Hank looked around the area quickly as he reached out his hand to her, he knew that a hug was a big risk and if seen well he knew what the gossip around the precinct was like wildfire, it never stayed in one place for long. “Okay is good.” He said simply as he tried to smile. He would make it up to her the best way he could seeing on her face that she wanted a hug.
Hank smiled and nodded as he saw her nod toward the car, mental note for later always have spare gloves lying around. He should have realised but then he hadn’t expected to be stood there with her after what had just happened. He had more thought about the going back to her office, the day carrying on as it usually did and simply meeting up after work when they could be themselves for a while before doing the dance all over again.
Listening to her talk out her case he tried to understand and yes they both needed to go away, bad guys had to go away or what they did was pointless. She was right about the next part, the part that meant Lou was going to have to go back inside and plea anyone out after what the guy had done. “Are you sure no one else can do it?” He offered knowing what the response would be but then he had to try one way or another. It wasn’t like him to not offer the way out even if he had a good idea that she wasn’t about to take it at all.
“Oh really, so you like mouldy food then?” He said as he wrinkled his nose at that surprised at her good mood al things considered. Walking Hank resisted the urge to put his arm around her, another no go thing he thought as he simply stuck with actually getting to have dinner with her which was great. “Good job we are going to an Italian place then but I dont think they’d like it if I ask for fungus on the food.” He teased nudging her lightly.

Erin Reagan Voight She was okay… that was they walked past one of the other restaurants that had a news playing. Something about a police shooting was on. Not caring they were in the middle of the street. Erin saw the name on the bottom of the screen of the officer and started shaking her head. Immediately denying that this was happening. “No no no” she mumbled. Her arms reached for him and she buried her head. Right now it didn’t matter who saw.
The tension ran through her body. Everything else was forgotten. Erin looked back in the direction of the precinct and then where they were going. Wiggling out of Hank’s arm she started heading for the Italian place. Cue still having a distraction to talk about.
Erin needed to talk about something else or she was gonna break down and cry. “No” her voice was pointed. “I’m the only one who can authorize the plea. I started. I need to finish” she added. “You look out for me, I appreciate it; but it’s my job” she replied. No she could send one of the ADA’s but she’d started this, she was going to finish it.
“Leave the fungus on my pizza alone thank you” she tossed back at him. Erin was trying to be normal; but it was failing. It was failing in the way she walked, in the look in her eyes, even the way she carried herself. Block it out. Pretending it hadn’t happened. Except she stopped and leaned on the wall. She was trembling and shaking.

Hank glanced at the news that was playing, a police shooting was bad enough though as soon as Erin reached for him and heard what she said he took a moment to catch up as he held her tightly. He couldnt believe the name he was reading, it never hit that close to home ever. Hank knew what his next steps were, get on the case and make sure the guy paid for it but then even that seemed futile as he read further into the details provided.
Watching Erin’s reaction he was stunned, he glanced at the precinct half expecting her to head back but he hadn’t expected her to keep going to lunch. Not with that news. “No you dont need to finish, stuff the plea and let’s go home.” He said knowing that her family would likely need her at a time like that. He knew what it was like to lose a son so he knew what losing a brother might feel like. She had been there for him when he had completely lost it and he would do the same for her.
Hank tried to smile and laugh though it didnt quiet get that far as he could see in just about everything she did the normal act was failing badly. When she stopped he knew it wasn’t going to take long before it hit home what the new had revealed. “Lou.” He said as he moved to put an arm around her as he leaned on the wall next to her. “Don’t pretend.” He said simply knowing it was the worst thing she could do because he had done it.
There was nothing worse than losing family and the Reagan’s had lost enough in his mind. He was still wrapping his head around it as there was nothing to go at, no work distraction from the facts he had seen. He knew the ‘I’m sorry’ and ‘It will get better’ were pointless because he knew that those things were only said to people on the outside for a case of hope. It was different when you knew the facts of something and when words were simply that, just words.

Erin could be stubborn. She'd been this way with Joe's death. Trying to pretend it didn't happen that it was just a nightmare. Erin counted everyday that her family walked in the door safe as a blessing. Erin wasn't really sure she wanted to go home or deal with her family. Danny was likely to be volatile. With Frank and Henry there was no telling and if Nicky hadn't seen the news yet... Erin knew she was going to have to comfort Nicky. There was time to fall apart later. Now was not that time. Swallowing the heartbreak is what she did best.
“No you dont need to finish, stuff the plea and let’s go home.” He couldn't honestly be serious? She gave him a look. "I'm finishing this Hank" she stated rather bluntly. Her voice trying not to break. If she could just focus on her job. She felt the nagging voice in the back of her head telling her to just listen to Hank but she was in no mood to listen to reason right now.
Then he told her not to pretend as she leaned on his shoulder when he offered an arm. Her free arm coming around to him in a hug. She wanted to snap at him. No. He didn't deserve that, so she just opted for hugging him tighter. Silence was better than snapping at him. SIlence could be interpreted with a lot of things. Erin shook her head.
Joe, Justin, now Jamie. Having a J in your name in the family seemed almost like a death sentence. Someone had to keep it together. That someone was her. It always was when things went to hell in a handbasket. Sliding her phone out she texted Nicky to check on her. 'Hold it together Erin, deep breathes' she was trying to keep herself from losing it right there. Her grip on Hank got tighter as she lost all control she had quiet tears streaming down her face.
OOC: Could have him call Kev to finish out the plea deal for her?

Hank knew Erin was stubborn, it was a great trait as long as it wasn’t working against him which at the moment it was. This was her family and didnt pretend to know what she felt though he had a good idea he simply wanted to help her and acting normal wasn’t going to do that at all. It wasn’t just Erin either, there was Nicky too, Danny, Frank, Linda and Henry to think about in this too. Likely that Frank knew and Danny too but Nicky it was better she heard it from family than a new reel.
He rolled his eyes at her look, any other day he might have taken heed of what she wanted but not today. “Yeah yeah.” He said as he pulled his phone out of his pocket and dialled the idiot he had to go to for warrant. Not that Hank disliked all lawyers he had married one but Kev, the guy was bipolar as they came when it came to issuing a warrant on anything. “Hey, need a favour. Guy in interrogation at the twenty first, needs a plea deal. He attacked the DA though so not so gentle in the approach.” Hank said before he heard something about catching up on the case and not being on call or something like that.
Hank didnt much care at that moment though he figured the lawyer would catch up eventually. Hank wasn’t giving Erin a chance to even attempt finishing anything, she was done the moment the guy had tried to attack her in his mind. Hank hugged her back when she did, he kept the silence as really what could he say to her? Nothing would make it any better and nothing could change what happened it was simple as that. All he could do was hold her and make sure she was as alright as possible.
He could feel her grip getting tighter as he held her. “Let it go.” He said softly as he kissed the top of her head and tried to rock her gently. The one thing that could hurt a person more than any other was family and Hank found that the hard way, Justin had been his loss after his first wife and now out of a family of cops two of the Reagan’s gone. He just stood there silently holding her wishing he could do something to make it better.

Erin was very stubborn and she could tell that Hank wasn't going to let her handle this. Any other time she might have put up a fight though he did get a look as he picked up the phone. She knew what he was doing. "Hank" she tried to warn him, it frustrated her when she couldn't see things through to the end. Was it really his decision? Don't pick this battle Erin. The lawyer in her was screaming but the wife in her understood that he was just watching out for her.
Erin reached up and grabbed Hank's wrist as he held the phone to his ear and started blabbering. But that's all she did. She was resisting the urge to tell him off for interfering with things at that DA's office. She had every right. When Hank hung up the phone there was a look of disapproval from the State's Attorney. "Why can't you let me do my job?" her voice cracked, it was the lawyer in her coming out because if anything else did then she was going to be crying in about two seconds flat.
Usually Erin argued and paced but she was arguing and hugging him. Really she wanted to let it all go; but she couldn't not right now. She had to be the strong one. She pocketed her phone and then buried her whole head in his shoulder. It was one of those times, it didn't matter to her about professionalism. Erin wanted to pull away and just tell him she was fine; but she knew he would see right through it. "I can't. Not yet" he decided that it was better to just explain herself.
Despite being upset Erin could feel her stomach knawing at her, she was still hungry. "Let's get lunch to go?" she might have lost her appetite but she knew she was going to have to force herself to eat. Though to be fair she didn't know what she wanted on the menu but she knew she needed to eat. If he was going to fight her every step of the way she decided it might be best to just fold and let him take control of things. "then we can go home?" it was a question but she knew it was probably already on his mind. But she was folding slowly and letting him take care of her.

Her warning fell on deaf ears as he knew what he was doing or at least trying to. She was in no state to work and that much was clear to him, it wasn’t exactly what he wanted to do to her but then the day he had lost his son she had done the same for him. Kev wasn’t exactly his first choice but then who else was there, the guy was his guy for warrants when he chose to give them out without hassling him about every single detail. Still he had to do Erin’s job because letting her go back into that room would be a mistake he wasn’t willing to make.
When she grabbed his wrist and started blabbering it was lawyer stuff and beyond trying to keep himself within the lines of the law he knew little about it or the case she had been dealing with. Hearing her voice crack it made his point for him though he doubted she would believe him if he just left it at that. “Because it’s not the right time to do it. You once did something for me on a day like this so I’m returning that.” He said trying to explain why he wasn’t going to let her do her job. It wasn’t that he wanted to do it but in her state it wasn’t right to even ask her to do it.
Hank was used to her arguing, she was a lawyer after all though her pacing seemed to be gone as he held her. Hank couldnt have cared who saw them, wasn’t it understandable when she had just found out about her brother and if anyone said anything then he was sure they would regret it. “It’s okay Lou.” He said not sure why she felt like she couldnt just let it go though he was sure she had her reasons for it. Then came lunch question and he wasn’t sure he had heard her right for a moment.
“Lunch to go it is and then home.” He said as he nodded, “Do you know what you want?” He asked trying to take her mind of things though he knew it was likely an impossible task to do. It wasn’t something that you simply forgot about in the mean time though he was hoping he could just distract her long enough to make a difference in any way possible.

Leave it to Hank to ignore whatever she said completely. Men were frustrating. Why didn't he understand the whole needing a distraction? Then again she really hadn't let him get lost in word. She'd taken care of him and watched over him, long before they were anything 'official'. So was she really expecting the man she had married to turn her back. Then again her ex would have. Hank was so much better than that, and if she was in any state of mind it might have sunk in.
Hearing his explanation she just nodded. There was no sense in arguing she would lose this battle and she seemed to know it. Erin knew when to fold her cards and when to let Hank just be Hank. Not that she didn't want him to be him, just sometimes he was a bit much to handle and other times she could fight the battle. Right now she was in no state to really fight much of a battle against him.
She couldn't let it go because there was Joe's death too that was haunting her. Part of her wanted to tell Danny and Hank to quit but then at the same time she knew that they were good cops and the city needed them. But the police department had claimed the lives of both her brothers. "One line of duty death hurts... two... I can't even.. tell me this is a nightmare Hank. Tell me I'm gonna wake up and everyone will be safe" she was having a hard time processing and it took time to process things before you could let go of them. But at least she was talking?
“Besides knowing that I want Italian? No." she knew Hank knew what she ate and wouldn't eat for the most part. Burying her head she rocked back and forth. "I love you. I hope you know that" it sounded scared. Losing someone close to her in law enforcement and now she was worried about the stuff Hank stepped into day in and day out. It worried her before but now it was on the forefront of her mind. "Screw it Hank. I don't give a damn what all of Chicago thinks. Family is more important than what any media outlets twists the story into." She kissed him, it was a distraction but it was also a comfort. Screw what anyone thought.
